Simply put you can make a PPP dial-up connection of a straight dial-up ansi terminal connection to LaurentianWeb's local server.
We have been running internet e-mail since November 1993 - @laurentian.com was the first internet e-mail in the Laurentians and one of the first half dozen in the province! Recently more and more local people running Windows95 have discovered the ease of automatic connectivity to the system and the much faster downloads of great utilities in the filebase. We try to keep the "hit parade" (the most popular programs) of www.shareware.com up-to-date on the system.
The LaurentianWeb "intranet" is a closed system. To gain access you must register beforehand. Send an e-mail to with your full name and telephone number and an initial password of your choice which you can change on the first log on. You can call 819-687-2276 and also request registration by phone. This service is free to RougeNet members. A one year subscription is available for $25.00 (you'll save hours of frustrating download time and broken connections...it's a small price to pay to support a local facility!)
When you have registered make a new entry in your Win95 dial-up networking for LaurentianWeb to make a PPP connection to the system.

That's it! No complicated DNS entries etc...it is all handled automatically. Its the easiest PPP connection set-up you'll ever do! Our Wins Server Running on WinNT does it all for you! We can even assign you a fixed ip address that will be automatically assigned to you everytime you log on!
The LaurentianWeb Gateway screen will come up and just log in! You can download files, post messages to the RougeNet public conference (we can set up your own conference too), and send local e-mail. You'll discover the whole new world of dynamic html screens that update before your eyes! You can subscribe to send/receive internet e-mail @laurentian.com for an additional fee. Our internet e-mail server is a little different than the standard shareware SMTP e-mail you'll find on most providers. Its a commercially oriented system with powerful redundancy, message tracking and archiving, and compression capability for industry standard qwk/rep packets if you are a heavy user on the road and want to make quick connects!
We hope to soon be adding a telnet inbound facility so if you are a mail user on LaurentianWeb you can access your mail easily from anywhere in the world on anyone else's internet connection! Great for when you are in Europe or down south!
Win 3.1 users can also make a PPP connection but the script is a little more complicated and depends on individual machines so we prefer to talk to you in person!
For very experienced users who enjoy the speed of straight ansi interface with no graphics, you can make a dial-up connections using a standard communications program like QModem Pro or ProCom as well.
